This book is more of a relaxation read, less of a chore, so don’t just read this book if you have to, read it because it is a good book.
If you’re wondering what those characters you heard from your friend are, these are probably what you heard.
Percy. He lives with his mother and stepfather, he is taken to Camp Half-Blood, with his mother being sent to the underworld on the way, by a minotaur. He, his best friend Grover and Annabeth go on many quests and adventures together.
Grover is a satyr who is Percy’s protector/best friend, he is obsessed with enchiladas, and finding Pan. Pan is the god of the wild and has been missing for millenium.
Annabeth is a daughter of Athena and is extremely smart, getting the group out of most situations. She prefers logic over feeling and doesn’t always encourage them, instead prefers insulting them.
This book is in 3 to 4 sections, I will be going over them instead of all the details.
Percy goes to school one day and finds that his math teacher who hates him is a Fury, and kills her. After school he heads home and goes to a beach house, but his mother leaves with him to Camp Half-Blood and is taken by a minotaur. Percy and Grover then go training there and it is revealed that Percy is the son of Poseidon.
He, Grover and Annabeth then go on a quest to find Zeus’ Master Bolt in the underworld. On the way they encounter Medusa, who tries to kill them. Percy kills her and goes to The Arch. There the Chimera attacks them, with Grover and Annabeth escaping, but Percy plunging into the Mississippi River and a water nymph gives him 3 pearls that will take them to the water when smashed on the ground.
He then meets Ares who gives them a backpack. They then go into the Underworld and find the truth: The Bolt was stolen by Luke, a camp member and gave it to Ares. Percy then defeats Ares and then gives the bolt to Zeus completing his quest. He also brought his mother back from the underworld.
See how Annabeth always prefers the logical way, instead of focusing on emotions of other people? That is her way of helping the group, and Percy shows that by being brave and defending the group. Take this away > Friends will always put you back up, dust you off, and help you on your way.
