THE RANGERS APPRENTICE

The Rangers Apprentice has quite some backstory, so I will give you some of the backstory that the book doesn’t have.

These are the two main characters in this book, you’ll need to know them before reading this.

Will is and orphan who was raised in the ward of Castle Redmont he and his friends, Horace, Jenny, and Alyss go on many adventures together. He is an apprentice to the Ranger Halt.

Horace is (at first) Will’s bully, but eventually they become friends. He becomes one of the greatest knights in Araluen, saving Will many times.

This is what you should give to your teacher.

At the start of the book, Will becomes apprentice to Halt, a master Ranger. His friend Horace goes to battle school, the place where young boys are trained to become a Knight. There he is bullied by, Bryn, Alda and Jerome, who make him do extra work and usually beat him.

After a few months the group meets up and celebrates Harvest Day together. However, when Horace turns up, he ruins the occasion by being very unpleasant and causing a fight with Will. While hunting the next day, Will and Halt discover very large boar prints. They gather 30 knights, the Battlemaster, Baron Arald and Horace, after killing the boar they all celebrate, But out of the bushes comes and even bigger boar who charges at Horace.

Will then distracts the boar by shooting arrows at it, and then Halt uses his giant longbow and pierces the boars heart. The next day Will and Halt go to a Rangers Gathering and meet Gilan. There they hear that there are Kalkara, very vicious monsters in the Ruins of Gorlan. Halt and Gilan go but Will goes back to Castle Redmont and bring back knights and the Battlemaster for reinforcements. There the Kalkara overpowers Halt and Gilan but Will manages to kill it by shooting a flaming arrow.

Will then returns home and gets his Bronze Oakleaf, meaning he is now a proper apprentice to Halt.

What you should draw from this book is that honesty is the best policy. The reason why Halt chose Will as an a apprentice was because he always told the truth when he was caught.
